Officials in Germany are sounding the alarm on a recent decision by Joe Biden to lift economic sanctions on Russia in order to enable construction on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
Biden claims it’s in “American interest” to lift sanctions as the pipeline, spanning Europe from Germany to Russia, would positively affect U.S. allies.
Despite claiming to act tough on Russia, the Biden administration vowed to scrap economic sanctions on Russian oligarchs responsible for the construction of Nord Stream 2.
The Biden administration is expertly skilled at backtracking. For example, during Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s confirmation hearing, he claimed his officials would be “determined to do what we can to prevent the completion of Nord Stream 2.”
Trump signed a defense bill in 2019 which leveled Russian officials responsible for the pipeline with heavy economic sanctions.
Republican lawmakers, notably Sen. Ted Cruz has been a vocal opponent of the Nord Stream 2 construction claiming it would give Putin a major economic victory in the region while military tensions arise.
The Texas Republican couldn’t help but notice the hypocrisy – as Biden closes pipelines in the U.S, he actively helps other nations build their own.
The Biden administration spends its time shutting down American pipelines, failing to protect the pipelines it doesn’t shut down, and enabling Putin to build pipelines. #NordStream2

Cruz claimed that Biden is in total violation of U.S. law with the lifting of Russian sanctions.
Stunning. In defiance of U.S. law, Biden is actively helping Putin build his pipeline.
Objectively speaking, the Biden administration is shaping up to be the most pro-Russia administration of the modern era. https://t.co/3FwjiIILEc

Former President Trump expressed his distaste for the pipeline during his presidency, even though it was a priority for German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
“We’re protecting Germany, we’re protecting France, we’re protecting all of these countries and then numerous of the countries go out and make a pipeline deal with Russia where they’re paying billions of dollars into the coffers of Russia,” Trump said in 2018.
